about this site
What the HELLP? is a site dedicated to raising awareness about HELLP Syndrome. When my sister died of HELLP in 2013 our family realized how very little information is available regarding this deadly syndrome. What the HELLP? was created in January 2013 so real women can submit their very real experiences with HELLP Syndrome to help women and families to be informed.
Read and share their stories. You could save a life. If you have had HELLP Syndrome and would like to share your story click here or the button below.
According to preeclampsia.org HELLP stands for hemolysis, (which is the breaking down of red blood cells), elevated liver enzymes and low platelet count.
To most of us that makes absolutely no sense, and diagnosing HELLP can be frustrating because the symptoms are often mistaken for other factors including, but not limited to gastritis, flu, and gall bladder disease. Basically, the majority of doctors will tell you that HELLP Syndrome is a very severe case of preeclampsia, but others will tell you that HELLP Syndrome is completely separate from HELLP.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The easiest way to raise awareness about HELLP Syndrome is simply by talking about it! Share the infographics provided, change your Facebook cover photo with one of ours, read and share the stories with others.
What the HELLP? encourages our friends to donate directly to the Preeclampsia Foundation. "Help save the lives of babies and mothers adversely affected by preeclampsia, eclampsia and HELLP syndrome."
We have created a variety of t-shirts to help start conversations about HELLP Syndrome. They are sold through and printed through our store on Zazzle. You can shop here. Proceeds from these products are used to fund this website.
